Job Summary
The Oncology Nurse will provide specialized care to cancer patients at Diani Beach Hospital. This involves managing chemotherapy administration, educating patients on their treatment, and providing essential palliative and supportive care. The role requires a deep understanding of cancer treatment protocols and excellent patient-counseling skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
Administer chemotherapy and other cancer-related treatments safely and efficiently.
Educate patients on their treatment plan, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
Provide comprehensive patient counseling and psychosocial support.
Administer palliative and supportive care to enhance the patient's quality of life.
Monitor patients for treatment side effects and manage them effectively.
Ensure the safe handling and disposal of cytotoxic drugs and other hazardous materials.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and documentation.
Collaborate with oncologists and other medical staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Adhere to all hospital policies and infection control standards.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases.
Offer emotional support to patients and their families throughout the treatment journey.
Uphold a high standard of teamwork, communication, and professionalism.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Higher Diploma in Oncology Nursing from a recognized institution.
A valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
At least 1 year of post-internship experience in oncology care.
Proven experience in chemotherapy administration, patient education, and palliative care.
Strong knowledge of cancer treatment protocols and side-effect management.
Excellent patient counseling and psychosocial support skills.
The ability to handle cytotoxic drugs safely.
Strong teamwork, communication, and record-keeping skills.
