Job Summary
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will provide strategic leadership for nursing services across the entire hospital. This role involves developing and implementing nursing policies, overseeing staff and resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and professional standards. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for all nursing services.
Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Oversee staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation for all nursing units.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional nursing standards.
Promote patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based nursing care.
Mentor, train, and evaluate nursing staff to foster professional growth and retention.
Collaborate with hospital leadership and medical teams on clinical governance and operational planning.
Monitor nursing budgets, optimize resource use, and contribute to cost-effective healthcare delivery.
Lead initiatives for patient-centered care and continuous service improvement.
Possess knowledge of endoscopic procedures, equipment reprocessing, and infection prevention standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) from a recognized institution. A Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or a related field is an added advantage.
A valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting.
Experience in Maternity, ICU & critical care, or theatre will be an additional advantage.
Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, quality assurance, and clinical governance.
