Job Summary
The Critical Care Nurse will be a key part of the nursing team, responsible for providing high-quality care to critically ill patients. The role involves managing mechanical ventilation, monitoring vital signs and medical equipment, and ensuring a safe environment. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, highly skilled professional with a minimum of five years of experience in a critical care setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Initiate mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) based on physician orders.
Ensure a safe environment for patients through strict adherence to infection control practices.
Perform timely safety checks on medical equipment such as beds, IV pumps, and ventilators.
Provide mentorship to junior nurses and students.
Document all assessment data, care given, and patient interactions in a comprehensive and timely manner.
Identify patient's specific and critical needs and adapt care plans accordingly.
Prioritize nursing care for critically ill patients based on assessment data.
Set up and monitor medical equipment and devices, including cardiac monitors, dialysis, and oxygen delivery systems.
Participate in unit-based nursing education and quality improvement (QI) projects.
Participate in data collection and monitoring of departmental quality indicators.
Carry out audits on Infection Prevention and Documentation.
Uphold statutory regulations as required by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and Kenyan laws.
Safeguard the hospital's and patients' confidential information and property.
Qualifications & Requirements
Higher National Diploma in Nursing in a specialized area.
A Diploma in a relevant nursing discipline (KRCHN, KRN, KRM, or Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery).
Must be a Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse by the NCK.
5 years of relevant work experience, with at least 2 years after post-basic qualification.
Must be BLS & ACLS certified.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Computer literacy and strong record-keeping skills.
Must be a team player with appropriate delegation skills.
God-fearing, compassionate, and with a high level of integrity.
