Job Summary

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi is seeking to recruit 2 Medical Engineering Technologists to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of medical equipment within its health facilities. These roles require a Kenyan citizen with a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology, a valid registration certificate from the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya (AMEK), and computer proficiency. Successful candidates will be vital in undertaking preventive maintenance, repairs, and providing technical guidance on medical equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake preventive maintenance and repairs of medical/hospital equipment, plants, instruments, and furniture to ensure their optimal performance and longevity.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary spare parts and consumables for medical equipment, plants, or instruments to facilitate timely repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of medical/hospital equipment, furniture, and plants, ensuring accurate records for accountability and planning.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of medical equipment, including maintenance activities, repairs, and recommendations, as required by the supervisor.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in the identification, selection, and sourcing of new medical equipment, ensuring suitability and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure safety and security protocols are strictly followed within the workshop environment to prevent accidents and protect equipment.
  • Coach and mentor students on attachment within the medical engineering department, imparting practical skills and knowledge.
  • Implement medical engineering programs and projects aimed at improving equipment management and service delivery.
  • Conduct regular calibration and testing of medical devices to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance promptly.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to understand equipment needs and provide user training.
  • Adhere to all relevant national and international standards and regulations for medical devices.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the medical engineering department.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Be a holder of a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
  • Possess a valid registration certificate from the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya (AMEK).
  • Hold a Certificate in computer application.
