Job Summary
The Mortician at Vihiga County Government will perform a range of duties in the mortuary, including receiving and recording bodies, preparing them through washing, embalming, and refrigeration, assisting in post-mortems, counseling bereaved relatives, and facilitating the release of bodies according to established procedures. The role requires empathy, strong communication skills, and adherence to professional protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities will be to carry out duties in the mortuary which entail:
- Collecting and receiving bodies within the hospital and outside through the prescribed procedures.
- Recording bodies received accurately.
- Washing the bodies, performing embalming, and facilitating refrigeration.
- Scrubbing and assisting in post-mortems.
- Counselling the relatives with sensitivity and compassion.
- Releasing the bodies to the relatives as per the laid procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the mortuary.
- Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
- Be a Kenyan citizen.
- Possess a Certificate in mortuary science.
- Have at least three (3) years of relevant work experience in a busy mortuary or a reputable Funeral Home.
- Have attained a mean grade of D (Plain) at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- Have training in embalming and grief counseling.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong English and Swahili language skills.
