Job Summary
The Registered Nurse I (Nephrology) will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions for patients with kidney diseases. This includes diagnosing common health conditions, providing appropriate healthcare services, offering health education and counseling specific to nephrology, making appropriate referrals, facilitating admissions and discharges, maintaining patient records related to renal care, ensuring a safe clinical environment, collecting data for research, evaluating healthcare outcomes, conducting school health needs assessments, planning and implementing interventions for schools, and identifying occupational health needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions specifically tailored to the needs of patients with nephrological conditions.
- Diagnosing common health conditions that may be related to or impact renal health, and providing appropriate initial care or escalating as necessary.
- Providing appropriate healthcare services focused on the management and care of patients with kidney diseases.
- Providing health education and counseling to patients/clients and the community on identified renal health needs, including disease management, dietary considerations, and lifestyle adjustments.
- Referring patients and clients appropriately to nephrologists or other specialists when their conditions require advanced renal care.
- Facilitating patients' admission processes into renal units and initiating discharge plans to ensure continuity of care for kidney patients.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records on patients’/clients’ health condition and the specific nephrology care provided.
- Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment that meets the specific needs of renal patients, including infection control measures.
- Collecting and collating data for research related to nephrology nursing and patient outcomes.
- Evaluating healthcare outcomes on patients/clients with renal conditions and preparing individualized reports on their progress and response to treatment.
- Conducting assessment of schools’ health needs, including awareness of kidney health and risk factors.
- Planning and implementing interventions based on school health needs assessments, potentially including education on kidney health, and preparing periodic reports.
- Identifying occupational health needs that may impact renal health and making appropriate recommendations for prevention and support.
Qualifications & Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- A Diploma in any of the following disciplines from a recognized institution: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/ Kenya Registered Midwifery, or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry qualification.
- A Higher Diploma in Kenya Registered Nephrology Nursing.
- A Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya as a Registered Nurse Nephrologist.
- A Valid Practicing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya as a Registered Nurse Nephrologist.
- A Certificate in Computer Application skills from a recognized institution.
