Job Summary
Mater Misericordiae Hospital is seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Pharmaceutical Technologist to ensure the accurate and timely processing of pharmacy transactions, maintain optimal stock levels, and provide essential pharmaceutical services to patients and medical staff. The ideal candidate will be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, possess relevant experience, and be committed to upholding high standards of pharmaceutical care.
Main Duties:
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of all pharmacy computer transactions for efficient billing purposes.
- Conduct timely ordering for stock replenishment to the pharmacy store to maintain optimal stock levels and prevent shortages.
- Perform compounding, re-packaging, and dilutions of drugs accurately according to established guidelines and safety protocols.
- Provide comprehensive drug information to patients, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure safe and effective medication use.
- Participate actively in regular drug expiry monitoring, diligently identifying and documenting items with an expiry of less than six (6) months to prevent wastage.
- Liaise effectively with user departments to ensure adequate stocking and proper storage of emergency drugs and intravenous infusions, minimizing losses due to expiries and damages.
- Participate actively in the quarterly stock take exercise and ensure timely and accurate explanation of any stock variances identified.
- Participate actively in quality management system activities, including thorough documentation, data analysis, and detailed reporting for the continued improvement of pharmacy services.
- Provide effective training and mentorship to pharmaceutical technologist interns, contributing to the development of future professionals.
- Accurately enter prescription orders into the computer system and generate clear and appropriate medication labels.
- Diligently document any dispensing errors that occur and actively take measures to minimize their recurrence.
- Thoroughly document any adverse drug reactions reported, ensuring patient safety and contributing to pharmacovigilance.
- Carefully receive incoming drugs and meticulously verify them against the stock transfer printout to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure proper and organized shelving of all pharmaceutical items in the pharmacy.
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department and provide comprehensive reports as required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising pharmacist or management.
Required Qualifications for the Position
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
- Must be Registered/Enrolled with The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Must possess a current Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in a pharmacy setting.
- Must be Computer Proficient with the ability to use relevant pharmacy software and basic computer applications.
