Job Summary
Mount Kenya University is seeking a qualified and experienced Perioperative Theatre Technology Trainer to join its academic team in Thika. This role is essential for delivering high-quality education and practical training in perioperative theatre technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and teaching assigned units, developing learning materials, assessing student progress, and contributing to curriculum development, thereby shaping the next generation of skilled perioperative professionals.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned, as outlined in the course outline, strictly in line with the established course curriculum.
- Lead the development of learning materials, ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records, and meticulously maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
- Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans tailored for individual students to maximize their learning outcomes.
- Assess students' work and monitor their achievement effectively, providing constructive feedback.
- Actively take part in the Course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet evolving student needs and industry standards.
- Responsible for examining and marking Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts) and end-of-term assessments, and timely uploading of marks into the University's Management Information System (MIS) for assigned units.
- Carry out practical instructions for trainees and ensure proper maintenance of their portfolios of evidence.
- Supervise students during assessments, ensuring fairness and adherence to academic regulations.
- Contribute significantly to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum within the department.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, contributing to strategic planning and operational decisions.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the department's goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Must have a Higher National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Nursing, Medical Technology, or a related health field from a recognized institution.
- Registration: Must hold Registered Nurse status with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a Perioperative Theatre Technologist or in a related role, with a strong foundation in theatre operations and surgical procedures.
- Teaching Experience: Along with clinical experience, candidates must have experience in teaching or training in a university or tertiary institution setting.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of perioperative theatre technology.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
