Job Summary
The Perioperative Theatre Technician will be responsible for assisting the surgical team in the preparation and maintenance of the operating theatre, ensuring the availability of necessary surgical instruments and supplies, and adhering to strict infection control protocols.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theatre before surgical procedures by ensuring cleanliness and availability of all required equipment and supplies.
- Assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving, maintaining a sterile environment.
- Ensure that all surgical instruments are correctly sterilized, laid out, and in good working order.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures and provide necessary instruments and supplies promptly.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Assist with the positioning of patients on the operating table according to the surgical procedure.
- Operate and troubleshoot basic theatre equipment, reporting any malfunctions promptly.
- Participate in the cleaning and disinfection of the operating theatre and equipment after each procedure.
- Manage the inventory of surgical instruments, sutures, and other theatre supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies and procedures to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.
- Assist in the preparation and handling of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Document all procedures and equipment used accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other theatre staff to ensure smooth workflow.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in perioperative techniques.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the efficient operation of the theatre department in Kericho.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in a perioperative theatre setting.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and their proper handling.
- Comprehensive understanding of infection control principles and practices in the operating theatre.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
to collaborate effectively with the surgical team. - Ability to follow instructions and protocols precisely.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of sterility and safety.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
