Key Responsibilities
The Paramedic is directly responsible to the Nursing Officer In Charge and will carry out the following duties:

Emergency Response and Care:
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide on-site and enroute emergency medical care to patients of all ages, ensuring smooth transfer and handover to referral facilities.
- Triage patients efficiently in waiting bays or during mass casualty situations, accurately identifying and prioritizing acute cases based on severity.
- Deliver essential emergency and trauma care, including:
- Advanced airway management and assisted ventilation techniques.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) following current guidelines.
- Effective control of hemorrhage and comprehensive treatment of shock.
- Proper bandaging of wounds and immobilization of fractures and spinal injuries.
- Skilled support in emergency childbirth situations.
- Management of general medical conditions in prehospital settings.
- Continuously assess and closely monitor patients during transfer, and provide necessary interventions based on their condition or under direct medical guidance.
- Provide crucial support to clinical teams during various procedures, consultations, ward rounds, and daily patient care activities.
- Strictly adhere to all infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, universal precautions, and hygiene standards to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Actively participate in major emergency responses, ensuring personal safety and coordinated patient care during mass casualty incidents.
- Maintain up-to-date, clear, and comprehensive documentation of all patient care provided, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Stay thoroughly familiar with all medical equipment utilized in emergency response and actively participate in refresher trainings and Continuous Medical Education (CMEs) as needed.
- Ensure strict compliance with all legal and ethical requirements during emergencies, including the respectful handling of deceased patients and the safeguarding of their personal property.

Reporting and Communication:
- Maintain comprehensive records and legal documentation of patient assessments, interventions performed, and referrals made.
- Attend and actively support internal CMEs and skills-building sessions to enhance professional development.
- Submit timely Health Information System (HIS) reports and actively participate in service audits and reviews.
- Monitor and ensure the optimal utilization of emergency medical supplies and maintain adequate buffer stocks to prevent shortages.

- Manage emergency calls with utmost professionalism, efficiently gathering critical information, providing appropriate advice to callers, and dispatching services effectively.
- Practice strictly within the scope of practice defined by Kenyan regulations and established institutional policies.

- Render high-quality emergency medical and trauma care to adults, children, and infants based on thorough assessment findings.
- Ensure high-quality emergency care and safe patient transfers to appropriate facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Nursing or Emergency Medical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered by a relevant regulatory body (e.g., Nursing Council of Kenya - NCK or Kenya Emergency Medical Technicians Council - KETC).
- Training or certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration clinical experience in an acute care or emergency setting.
- Prior experience working in humanitarian or refugee contexts is considered an added advantage.
