Job Summary

The Nairobi Women's Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator to manage the daily operations of its nursing simulation and skills lab. This crucial role involves ensuring the proper setup of labs for both demonstration and simulation exercises, contributing significantly to the practical training and development of nursing professionals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical nursing background and a passion for education.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations and overall functionality of the nursing simulation and skills laboratory.

  • Ensure proper and timely setup of all labs for various demonstration and simulation exercises, adhering to teaching schedules and learning objectives.

  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and inventory of all simulation equipment, manikins, and skills lab supplies.

  • Collaborate with nursing educators and clinical instructors to understand their curriculum needs and effectively prepare the lab environment to meet those requirements.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to students and instructors during simulation sessions and skills practice.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate necessary repairs or replacements to ensure continuous lab functionality.

  • Develop and implement best practices for skills lab utilization, hygiene, and safety.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and conducive learning environment within the skills laboratory.

  • Assist in the development and revision of simulation scenarios and skills competency checklists.

  • Participate in staff training sessions to enhance their knowledge and use of simulation technology.

  • Document lab usage, equipment maintenance, and inventory levels for reporting purposes.

  • Stay updated on current trends and technologies in nursing simulation and skills education.

  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, safety regulations, and educational standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • Must have at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Prior teaching experience or experience working in a nursing skills lab is preferred and will be an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and simulation software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Must hold a Valid Nursing Council of Kenya license.
