Job Summary

The Medical Specialist I - Dermatologist will be responsible for providing specialized clinical care in dermatology, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with skin conditions. The role also involves training, consultation, conducting surgeries, providing medico-legal services, coordinating health education, implementing health programs, maintaining health information systems, monitoring treatment care, undertaking research, and analyzing medical reports within the health facilities of Nakuru County.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertaking general diagnosis, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with dermatological conditions.
  • Carrying out specialized clinical care in dermatology.
  • Providing psycho-social interventions to patients with skin disorders.
  • Providing specialized clinical services to patients with dermatological needs across various health facilities.
  • Training, consulting, and conducting dermatological surgeries and procedures in different health facilities within Nakuru County.
  • Carrying out forensic and medical-legal services related to dermatological cases.
  • Coordinating health education and promotion activities related to skin health.
  • Implementing health projects and programs focused on dermatological care and prevention.
  • Maintaining up-to-date health information systems related to dermatology services.
  • Monitoring the provision of health treatment and care for dermatological patients.
  • Undertaking health research in the field of dermatology to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Analyzing Medical reports related to dermatological cases to inform treatment strategies and service delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Work experience of at least six (6) years post-registration.
  • A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCHB) degree from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A Masters of Medicine in Dermatology from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A certificate in senior management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • A Certificate of registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A Valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A Valid specialist recognition certificate from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability in the management of health services in a large health institution.
