Job Summary
The Dental Specialist I - Orthodontist will be responsible for performing a range of specific dental care procedures with a specialization in orthodontics, managing dental health patients, undertaking medico-legal duties, conducting examinations and assessments, participating in community oral health services, referring complex cases, educating on dental health, maintaining patient records, supervising trainees, ensuring timely report preparation, coordinating work plans, and facilitating capacity building for dental personnel within the health facilities of Nakuru County.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performing specific dental care procedures including restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, pedodontics, orthodontics, minor oral-facial surgeries, and periodontology.
- Being on call for review and managing dental health patients, with a focus on orthodontic cases.
- Undertaking medico-legal duties which include filling of P.3 forms related to dental and orthodontic issues.
- Undertaking dental examinations, age assessment, and writing dental reports, including those specific to orthodontic evaluations.
- Conducting outreach community oral health services, including education and screening related to orthodontics.
- Referring complex dental cases, particularly those requiring specialized orthodontic treatment.
- Educating and creating awareness on the prevention of dental diseases and the importance of dental health, with a focus on orthodontic care and alignment.
- Maintaining up-to-date dental health patients’ records and biodata, including detailed orthodontic treatment plans and progress.
- Supervising the training and coaching of dental interns and students, particularly in the area of orthodontics.
- Ensuring that dental health reports, including those related to orthodontic treatments, are prepared and submitted promptly.
- Coordinating the preparation of annual work plans for the dental department, ensuring that orthodontic services are adequately planned for and adhered to.
- Coordinating capacity building and deployment of dental personnel, including those specializing in orthodontics.
Qualifications & Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Work experience of at least six (6) years post-registration.
- A Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A Masters of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A valid certificate of registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A Valid Specialist Practising License from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in the field of Orthodontics.
- A Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability in the management of health services in a large health institution.
