Job Summary

The Internal Auditor III will be responsible for implementing internal audit policies, systems, and procedures, determining audit scope, conducting post-audit reviews, assessing controls, ensuring financial information integrity, reviewing procurement processes, and preparing audit reports. This role also involves non-financial audits, including academic performance analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implementing established internal audit policies, systems, and procedures to ensure consistent and effective audit practices.
  • Determining the internal audit scope and actively participating in the development of annual audit plans and programmes.
  • Carrying out thorough post-audit reviews to rigorously ensure the effective implementation of agreed corrective action plans.
  • Reviewing existing procedures and policies across the Polytechnic to ensure that adequate internal controls are in place and functioning effectively.
  • Ensuring that all financial information is accurately and properly processed, reliably reported, and effectively safeguarded against potential risks.
  • Conducting comprehensive reviews of the procurement processes and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Performing detailed vouching and verification of sample transactions to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Preparing organized and comprehensive audit working papers to document audit procedures and findings.
  • Verifying the existence and accuracy of the Polytechnic's assets and liabilities.
  • Compiling periodic and special audit reports summarizing audit findings and recommendations for management action.
  • Undertaking non-financial audit assignments as required to assess operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Analyzing and evaluating academic performance (e.g., workload allocation, timetable adherence, class attendance, examinations, and customer satisfaction) in close liaison with the quality assurance officer.
  • Conducting special audits as may be specifically requested by the management to address particular concerns or areas of risk.
  • Proactively communicating any identified loopholes or weaknesses within the Polytechnic's structure and recommending appropriate and practical solutions to ensure minimal disruptions to business operations from unsupportive structures.

Job Specification

For appointment at this level, a candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration, or Bachelor of Business Management (Accounting or Finance Option) from a recognized institution.
  • Be a holder of CPA-K (Certified Public Accountant - Kenya) qualification.
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body such as the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Internal Auditors 1 (IIA). 
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in auditing within the public sector since obtaining the required qualifications.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and strong skills in working with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, along with excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
