Job Summary

M.P. Shah Hospital is actively seeking dedicated Clinical Nurses to join its specialized Maternity unit. Reporting directly to the Nurse Managers, these roles are crucial for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to mothers and newborns, aligning with the hospital's core values, including environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities include holistic patient care, emergency response, medication administration, vital signs monitoring, infection prevention, patient and family education, and multidisciplinary collaboration, all while ensuring responsible resource utilization within the maternity setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based holistic patient care to expectant mothers, new mothers, and newborns, promoting their physical, mental, and social well-being, whilst actively considering environmental and resource sustainability.

  • Respond promptly and efficiently to medical emergencies within the Maternity setting, such as obstetric emergencies or neonatal distress, ensuring all safety and sustainability protocols are strictly upheld.

  • Administer prescribed medication safely and accurately to patients in the maternity unit, ensuring responsible use of resources and continuously monitoring for any adverse effects on both mother and baby.

  • Monitor and meticulously document vital signs and hydration for both mothers and newborns, ensuring timely escalation of any concerns and implementing resource-conscious clinical practices.

  • Uphold strict infection prevention and control standards within the Maternity ward, ensuring environmentally responsible waste management in accordance with M.P. Shah Hospital’s IPC and sustainability guidelines.

  • Educate patients and their families comprehensively on their treatment plans, prenatal and postnatal care, newborn care, preventive health, and the critical importance of sustainable health practices.

  • Actively collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, pediatricians, and other specialists, to deliver integrated and seamless care, supporting sustainable and efficient patient outcomes.

  • Conduct essential nursing procedures specific to maternity care, such as assisting with labor and delivery, postpartum care, and neonatal care, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and sustainable resource use.

  • Play a key role in ensuring that patient care aligns with M.P. Shah Hospital’s core values of excellence, compassion, and environmental sustainability.

  • Contribute proactively to the hospital’s overarching commitment to sustainable healthcare practices in all daily tasks within the Maternity unit.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation for all maternal and newborn care.

  • Participate in continuous professional development and training sessions relevant to Maternity nursing and obstetric care.

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment within the Maternity unit to facilitate efficient and effective patient care.

  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families during critical periods, including childbirth and recovery.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must possess a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN, KRN, or KRM) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • A Higher Diploma or specialization relevant to the nursing unit, particularly in Midwifery or Obstetric Nursing, is highly desirable.
  • Must hold a Valid Nursing Council of Kenya license.
  • Possession of a Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable healthcare practices and environmental stewardship will be considered a significant added advantage.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills specific to maternal and neonatal health.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency obstetric situations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, especially with patients and their families during sensitive times.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
