Job Summary

M.P. Shah Hospital is actively recruiting dynamic and highly responsive Clinical Nurses to join its fast-paced Accident & Emergency (A&E) / Casualty unit. Reporting directly to the Nurse Managers, these critical roles involve providing immediate, comprehensive, and evidence-based care to patients presenting with diverse medical and traumatic emergencies, aligning with the hospital's core values including environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities encompass rapid assessment, emergency response, precise medication administration, continuous vital signs monitoring, stringent infection prevention, engaging patient and family education, and active multidisciplinary collaboration, all while ensuring responsible and sustainable resource utilization in a high-pressure environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based holistic patient care in the Accident & Emergency / Casualty unit, promoting patients’ physical, mental, and social well-being, whilst actively considering environmental and resource sustainability during emergency interventions.

  • Respond promptly and efficiently to all medical emergencies and acute presentations, performing rapid assessments and initiating life-saving interventions as per established protocols, ensuring safety and sustainability.

  • Administer prescribed medication safely and accurately to patients in critical and urgent conditions, ensuring responsible use of resources and continuously monitoring for rapid physiological responses and adverse effects.

  • Monitor and meticulously document vital signs, physiological parameters, and patient progress continuously, ensuring timely escalation of any changes and implementing resource-conscious clinical practices.

  • Uphold strict infection prevention and control standards in the high-traffic A&E / Casualty unit, ensuring environmentally responsible waste management in accordance with M.P. Shah Hospital’s IPC and sustainability guidelines.

  • Educate patients and their families comprehensively on their immediate medical condition, treatment plans, discharge instructions, preventive health measures, and the importance of sustainable health practices for ongoing well-being.

  • Actively collaborate with emergency physicians, specialist consultants, and other healthcare professionals across various disciplines to deliver integrated, rapid, and seamless care, supporting sustainable and efficient patient outcomes.

  • Conduct essential nursing procedures specific to emergency care, such as wound management, splinting, IV access, and assisting with minor surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and sustainable resource use.

  • Play a key role in ensuring that patient care aligns with M.P. Shah Hospital’s core values of excellence, compassion, and environmental sustainability, particularly in a high-volume, resource-intensive emergency setting.

  • Contribute proactively to the hospital’s overarching commitment to sustainable healthcare practices in all daily tasks within the Accident & Emergency / Casualty unit.

  • Maintain accurate, real-time, and meticulous patient records and documentation for all emergency presentations and interventions.

  • Participate in continuous professional development and training sessions relevant to Emergency Nursing, including trauma care and advanced life support certifications.

  • Ensure a highly organized, clean, and responsive work environment within the A&E / Casualty unit to facilitate rapid and effective patient care.

  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team, often under stressful and time-sensitive conditions.

  • Triage patients effectively to prioritize care based on the severity of their condition.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must possess a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN, KRN, or KRM) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • A Higher Diploma or specialization in Accident & Emergency Nursing or Critical Care Nursing is highly desirable.
  • Must hold a Valid Nursing Council of Kenya license.
  • Possession of a Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or willingness to obtain immediately) is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable healthcare practices and environmental stewardship will be considered a significant added advantage.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to rapidly identify and prioritize critical patient conditions.
  • Ability to respond calmly, swiftly, and effectively in high-pressure, unpredictable medical emergencies and traumatic situations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic support to patients and their families during stressful times.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team in a demanding and dynamic emergency environment.
  • Knowledge of emergency protocols, trauma management, and rapid intervention strategies.
