Job Summary

AAR Health Care (Kenya) Limited is seeking caring and proactive School Nurses to be responsible for providing quality nursing care and promoting the health and wellbeing of the school community. Reporting to the Head Emergency Rescue Services, the successful candidates will be involved in providing first aid, managing student health conditions, administering medications, and conducting health education and training. This role requires excellent clinical skills, strong communication abilities, and a genuine passion for working with children and adolescents.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid care to students and conduct thorough health assessments for various health concerns.
  • Facilitate the effective management of students with chronic or acute health conditions, ensuring their needs are met within the school environment.
  • Administer medications to students accurately and according to established school policies and medical prescriptions.
  • Develop and deliver education and training programs to the school community (students, staff, and potentially parents) on general health and wellbeing topics.
  • Perform appropriate clinical nursing procedures as required, adhering to professional standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, documenting assessments, treatments, and communications.
  • Collaborate effectively with school administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure the holistic health of students.
  • Identify potential health risks within the school environment and participate in the development of health and safety protocols.
  • Provide counseling and support to students on health-related issues, promoting healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Participate in health screenings and immunization programs organized by the school or relevant health authorities.
  • Stay updated on current best practices in school nursing and relevant health guidelines.
  • Maintain a well-equipped and organized school medical room, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and parents regarding student health concerns.
  • Promote a healthy and safe school environment for all members of the community.
  • Participate in relevant professional development and training opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Possess a Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Must have a valid registration certificate from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Have at least 2 years of experience as a practicing nurse.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in nursing procedures.
  • Possess ICT competency with the ability to use relevant technology for record-keeping and communication.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team player.
  • Possess a pleasant personality and a genuine interest in the wellbeing of children and adolescents.
