Job Summary

Taita Taveta University (TTU) is seeking a qualified Medical Lab Technologist III to provide crucial laboratory services to the university community. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting various medical laboratory tests, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to safety protocols within the university health services in Voi, Taita Taveta County. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong technical skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in laboratory practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of medical laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology, following established procedures and quality control measures.
  • Accurately analyze specimens and interpret test results to provide reliable data for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ensure the accuracy and precision of all laboratory tests performed, adhering to internal and external quality assurance guidelines.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition and reporting any malfunctions promptly.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols and biosafety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed, results obtained, and quality control measures implemented.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs to continuously improve the accuracy and reliability of laboratory services.
  • Assist in the collection and processing of various biological specimens from patients within the university health clinic.
  • Ensure the proper disposal of medical and laboratory waste according to established regulations.
  • Maintain computer literacy for data entry, record-keeping, and generating laboratory reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals within the university health services to provide comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must possess a Diploma in Medical Laboratory from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in basic computer applications for data management and reporting.
  • Must possess a Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
