Job Summary

The Lecturer in Clinical Medicine is responsible for teaching and assessing courses in medical physiology for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This role involves supervising postgraduate research, participating in curriculum evaluation, and initiating research projects that align with the university's academic goals. The successful candidate will also be expected to conduct community service and initiate professional linkages within the medical field.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess courses in medical physiology for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • Provide high-level supervision for postgraduate students during their research and clinical training.

  • Initiate, promote, and actively participate in original research projects within the department.

  • Attend and participate in seminars, workshops, and international conferences in relevant medical fields.

  • Participate in the planning and development of curricula to ensure students meet modern development needs.

  • Implement and evaluate departmental curricula to maintain high academic standards.

  • Attend and contribute to Departmental and School Board meetings and other administrative activities.

  • Conduct community service and initiate professional linkages with other medical and research institutions.

  • Engage in fundraising and grant writing to support departmental research initiatives.

  • Utilize proficient computer skills and adapt to technological changes in education.

  • Maintain a high level of self-motivation and discipline in all academic duties.

  • Manage academic ambiguity and emotional dynamics within the classroom and faculty with excellent listening and mediation skills.

  • Demonstrate outstanding presentation and research writing skills for academic dissemination.

  • Adeptly plan lessons and maintain an excellent command of the subject area.

  • Perform any other official duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Vice Chancellor.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.

  • A Master’s degree or its equivalent in Clinical Medicine or a relevant field is mandatory.

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline is considered an added advantage.

  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.

  • Must be registered by the relevant professional body (e.g., Clinical Officers Council).

  • Must satisfy the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution.

  • Proficiency in computer skills and adaptability to new technologies.

  • Strong presentation, communication, and research writing abilities.
