Job Summary
The Nutrition Intern will be responsible for providing optimal nutritional care to patients while gaining hands-on work experience. The role involves instructing patients and staff on diet therapy, conducting nutritional assessments, and monitoring nutrition programs. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics and be indexed by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietician Institute (KNDI).
Duties & Responsibilities
Instruct patients, families, and healthcare staff on individualized diet therapy, general nutrition principles, and food selection and preparation.
Conduct nutritional screenings and assessments for assigned patients, applying the nutrition care process.
Develop, review, and adapt therapeutic and modified diets to meet the needs of individual patients in cooperation with healthcare staff.
Instruct the catering team on food preparation in the diet kitchen to ensure conformance with prescribed diets and sanitation standards.
Monitor nutrition programs to ensure compliance with local standards and regulations.
Act as a nutrition resource person on the healthcare treatment team by attending ward rounds and addressing nutrition aspects of patient care.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics or any other related field.
Must be indexed by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietician Institute (KNDI).
Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice.
The ability to solve problems by applying relevant nutrition knowledge.
The ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A compassionate and patient-centered approach.
