Job Summary

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi is seeking to recruit 2 Medical Officers to provide comprehensive medical services to patients. These roles require a Kenyan citizen with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., & ChB.) Degree, completion of a 12-month internship, and valid registration and practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, with at least three years of experience. Successful candidates will be responsible for attending to patients, performing medical procedures, responding to emergencies, and contributing to medical education and data management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend to patients through comprehensive clerking, accurate diagnoses, effective management, and systematic follow-up.
  • Perform a wide range of medical and surgical procedures as per clinical competency and hospital protocols.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and mass casualty incidents or disasters.
  • Provide essential health education to patients and their families on various health conditions, preventive measures, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Maintain meticulous medical records, health information, and patient data, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Participate actively in the management of medicines, medical instruments, and equipment, including proper ordering, storage, and usage.
  • Counsel patients and their relatives on diagnoses, treatment plans, and provide compassionate support during bereavement.
  • Engage in teaching and coaching Medical students, Medical Officer Interns, Nursing students and Interns, and Clinical Officer students and interns.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Conduct ward rounds and participate in clinical meetings to discuss patient cases and progress.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
  • Adhere to all professional ethics and guidelines set by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Undertake duties in any part of Tharaka Nithi County as they may be assigned from time to time.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor to ensure optimal patient care and departmental functioning.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Be a holder of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., & ChB.) Degree from a University recognized in Kenya.
  • Have completed a 12 months internship period.
  • Registered as a Medical Practitioner by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council.
  • Must have a Valid Practicing License.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in various clinical areas with at least three (3) years experience.
  • Be of acceptable moral and professional standing.
  • Willing to undertake duties in any part of Tharaka Nithi County as they will be assigned from time to time.
  • A Certificate in computer application skills from an institution recognized in Kenya will be an added advantage.
