Job Summary
The Interventional Cardiologist at Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu will report to the Medical Director and Head of Internal Medicine, taking a pivotal role in the Hospital’s cardiology program. This position requires delivering high-quality patient care, adhering to rigorous clinical governance and quality standards, while managing complex cardiology cases and driving continuous improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality and patient-centered care by performing advanced interventional cardiology procedures in line with current clinical governance frameworks.
- Ensure timely and effective management of complex cardiology cases.
- Conduct thorough pre-procedural evaluations and diagnostic assessments to determine the most appropriate case intervention strategy.
- Oversee comprehensive post-procedural management, including monitoring recovery, managing complications, and providing detailed follow-up care.
- Provide patient education on secondary prevention strategies to promote long-term cardiovascular health.
- Take part in departmental initiatives to develop and enhance clinical protocols and services within the cardiology section.
- Actively participate in clinical audits, patient safety programs, and risk management initiatives to meet and exceed institutional quality guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the cardiology department.
- Mentor and train interns, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals by sharing knowledge and participating in departmental meetings.
- Participate in the Hospital’s Continuous Medical Education (CMEs) and initiatives/forums that support professional development.
- Support and contribute to the institution’s research agenda.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cardiology interventions and integrate evidence-based practices into clinical care.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Postgraduate Certification/Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology.
- Fellowship in Cardiology.
- Master’s qualification in Internal Medicine.
- At least five years of post-graduate experience in Cardiology.
- A minimum of three (3) years of practice in Interventional Cardiology.
- Be registered and licensed with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and demonstrated commitment to advancing workplace diversity & inclusiveness.

- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
