Job Summary
The Research Scientist/Study Coordinator will be pivotal in the successful implementation of the EARN Trial in Kisii County. This role involves assisting with research activities, supervising research assistants and data collectors, ensuring data quality and ethical compliance, providing administrative support, and liaising with key stakeholders. The coordinator will also contribute to data analysis, report writing, and the dissemination of research findings.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of research projects and effectively supervise designated aspects of the trial.
- Provide comprehensive training, mentoring, and supervision to research assistants and data collectors in the field.
- Ensure proper and systematic documentation of all research processes and procedures.
- Maintain high data quality by closely monitoring data trends and the completeness of collected information.
- Provide essential administrative support for the trial, including scheduling meetings and organizing project-related events.
- Ensure the timely reporting of datasets, field reports, and other crucial documents as and when required by the Principal Investigator.
- Strictly ensure that ethical guidelines, research protocols, and all other relevant standards are consistently followed throughout the entire data collection process.
- Ensure adherence to all study deliverables and timelines, and actively support the submission of periodic reports detailing project status.
- Act as a key liaison with relevant county and sub-county health management teams, Ministry of Health departmental heads, opinion leaders, and other pertinent stakeholders.
- Take responsibility for drafting, editing, and preparing professional correspondence, detailed reports, and other necessary project-related materials.
- Assist in the critical processes of data analysis, interpretation, and the thorough validation of research results.
- Contribute to the academic output of the trial by assisting in proposal and manuscript writing and the effective dissemination of research findings.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or any other relevant Social Science discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications.
- Experience in coordinating a community eye health programme or clinical research will be a significant added advantage.
- Knowledge of research ethics and good clinical practice will be a valuable added advantage.
- Willingness to live in Kisii County and undertake extensive travel within the study area.
- Working knowledge of REDCap and/or smartphone-based data collection apps.

- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead and guide a team.
- Excellent planning skills to ensure efficient project execution.
- Proven experience in community engagement and outreach activities.
- Exceptional communication and reporting skills, both written and verbal.
