Job Summary

The University of Nairobi – STEPmag Project is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Study Coordinator to manage the activities of a key WHO-funded grant focused on Simplified Treatment for Eclampsia Prevention using Magnesium sulfate. The Study Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Study Investigators and the WHO team to ensure the trial adheres strictly to the protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, and all local regulatory requirements. This role involves significant travel to the three study sites.


Job Description

  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating study work: This includes establishing and maintaining strong linkages with participating hospitals and other key stakeholders.
  • Managing study ethics and human subjects’ protection: Ensuring all necessary local ethics review board and governmental approvals and renewals are obtained.
  • Supervision of field staff: Ensuring appropriate data collection and timely uploading of information.
  • Ensuring proper administration of consent procedures and questionnaires to participants.
  • Assisting in training staff involved in the research on study methodologies and protocols.
  • Making weekly and monthly reports of project activities to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Preparing for quarterly external audit and monitoring visits.
  • Liaising with the administrator regarding study purchases and any other administrative issues.
  • Keeping the principal investigators updated on all administrative, research, and financial activities related to the project.

Job Specifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent with a pass in English.
  • Kenya Registered Nurse Midwife or Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or a Bachelor of Science, Nursing or its equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of working experience post-qualification in a busy maternity unit.
  • Basic managerial skills and experience.
  • Training and experience in clinical research and IT.

Terms of appointment

This is a contract position with a tenure of one (1) year, renewable based on performance and mutual consent.
