Job Summary

The Co-operative University of Kenya is seeking a Pharmaceutical Technologist to ensure the efficient and accurate dispensing of medications and provision of pharmaceutical services to students, faculty, and staff within the university's health services. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting prescriptions, dispensing drugs, managing pharmacy inventory, and providing drug information, contributing to the overall healthcare of the university community in Nairobi.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting and dispensing medications accurately according to prescriptions issued by authorized medical practitioners.
  • Ensuring the correct dosage, route of administration, and potential drug interactions are reviewed before dispensing.
  • Providing clear and concise instructions to patients on the proper use, storage, and potential side effects of their medications.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of dispensed medications and patient information.
  • Managing pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and dispensing drugs and other pharmaceutical supplies efficiently.
  • Ensuring proper storage conditions for medications to maintain their quality and efficacy.
  • Providing information and advice to healthcare professionals and patients on drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects.
  • Participating in medication management and safety initiatives within the university health services.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and secure pharmacy environment in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Adhering to all relevant pharmacy laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines.
  • Being computer literate for managing pharmacy records and inventory systems.
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service skills when interacting with patients and university staff.
  • Being flexible and ready to work according to assigned duty schedules.
  • Being willing to work with the youth (students).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a Diploma/ Higher Diploma/ Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Technology from an accredited or recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Must hold a valid practicing license.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Be flexible and ready to work according to duty allocation.
  • Must be willing to work with the youth.
  • Should not have a record of professional misconduct.
  • Any specialization will be an added advantage.
