Job Summary

Bandari Maritime Academy is seeking a qualified Nursing Officer for a temporary contract to provide essential healthcare services to its students and staff. This role will involve providing first aid, managing minor illnesses, health education, and ensuring the general well-being of the academy's community. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with strong clinical and communication skills, able to work independently and provide compassionate care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff as needed.
  • Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of all treatments and consultations.
  • Provide health education and awareness programs on relevant health topics to the academy community.
  • Assist in the management of any outbreaks of communicable diseases within the academy.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Refer students or staff to appropriate medical facilities for further management when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized medical room/clinic.
  • Adhere to professional nursing standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives within the academy.
  • Provide support and advice on health-related matters to students and staff.
  • Assist in medical examinations or health assessments as required.
  • Collaborate with other academy staff on matters related to student welfare.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the academy management.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Diploma or Higher National Diploma (BA/BSc/HND) in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Must be a registered nurse with a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of basic medical procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a medical room/clinic efficiently.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach to healthcare.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
