Job Summary

The Nurse will play a vital role in the daily operations of the clinic, ensuring that patients receive high-quality and timely care in adherence to both AHF and Kenya government standards. Within the scope of nursing practice guidelines, the Nurse will also act as a team leader, contributing to the efficient and effective delivery of comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and actively support all Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC) activities in close coordination with the multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Facilitate the integration of essential healthcare services into CCC target areas, including Child Welfare Clinics (CWC), family planning services, and other relevant clinics.
  • Provide crucial support to the community-based components of the program, including active participation in outreaches and community mobilizations for care and support initiatives.
  • Proactively organize and diligently follow up with clients who have interrupted their treatment and care regimens to ensure their return and continued well-being.
  • Lead and provide strong support for educational sessions conducted at the CCC, empowering patients with knowledge and promoting adherence.
  • Support the formation and effective management of patient support groups within the CCC, fostering peer support and a sense of community.
  • Provide skilled nursing procedures with proficiency, such as performing dressing changes and other necessary clinical interventions.
  • Attend and actively participate in team conferences as requested by the clinical leadership, contributing to collaborative patient care planning.
  • May assume the role of a team leader, assisting with the direct provision and effective supervision of patient care activities.
  • Accurately chart patient notes and meticulously document medication administration according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Exercise appropriate clinical judgment and sound decision-making skills within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Ensure the strict maintenance of patient confidentiality at all times, adhering to ethical and legal standards.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed by medical orders and within the defined scope of practice for a licensed nurse.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures and/or initiate intravenous infusions as ordered by medical professionals.
  • May provide supervision and guidance to other cadres of healthcare workers, including Medical Assistants, ART Aides, and Phlebotomists, ensuring quality care delivery.
  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease management, treatment adherence, and overall health and wellness.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognized medical training college.
  • Current registration and a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Minimum of at least 3 years of relevant experience providing direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prior experience in treating HIV positive patients and a strong familiarity with current HIV&AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) management practices and protocols.
  • Experience in leading a team and effectively building capacity within resource-limited settings will be considered a significant added advantage.
