Job Summary

The Co-operative University of Kenya is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients within the university's health services. The successful candidate will ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, maintain laboratory equipment, and adhere to safety protocols, contributing to the overall healthcare of the university community in Nairobi.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performing a range of laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and parasitology.
  • Collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissue).
  • Ensuring the accuracy and precision of laboratory test results.
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, including calibration and quality control.
  • Adhering to laboratory safety procedures and infection control protocols.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of tests performed and results.
  • Preparing reagents and solutions for laboratory tests.
  • Participating in quality assurance programs to ensure the reliability of laboratory services.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate laboratory information.
  • Managing laboratory supplies and ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Being flexible and ready to work according to assigned duty schedules.
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service skills when interacting with patients and staff.
  • Being willing to work with the youth (students).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a Diploma/ Higher Diploma/ Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory from an accredited or recognized Institution.
  • Must be registered with a relevant professional body (KMLTTB).
  • Must hold a valid practicing license.
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body (KMLTTB).
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must demonstrate excellent Customer service skills.
  • Be flexible and ready to work according to duty allocation.
  • Must be willing to work with the youth.
  • Should not have a record of professional misconduct.
  • Any specialization will be an added advantage.
