Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for the accurate and efficient collection, processing, and handling of various biological specimens. This role involves performing quality control, ensuring the accuracy of test results, and maintaining the functionality of testing systems. The technologist will also adhere to safety protocols and maintain proper records in the laboratory.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established laboratory procedures to ensure sample integrity.
- Instruct patients in the proper collection of samples, providing clear and concise guidance to ensure accurate results.
- Perform quality control on test results, meticulously ensuring validity and accuracy to maintain high standards.
- Perform calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy and optimal performance.
- Keep detailed records and reports on test results according to established procedures for effective documentation and tracking.
- Practice stringent safety, environmental, and infection control methods to maintain a safe working environment and prevent contamination.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste according to hospital guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace to facilitate efficient workflow and prevent errors.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines.
- Assist in the procurement and inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs to continuously improve laboratory services.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate diagnostic information.
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines of a mission facility in all professional interactions.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in laboratory technology through continuous learning.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the laboratory.
Qualifications & Requirements
- At least a Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized Institution/University. A post-basic course will be an added advantage.
- At least three years' experience in a Laboratory Technologist position will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate all the responsibilities as described in your area of specialty.
- Computer literate with proficiency in basic software applications.
- Self-motivated and result-oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a mission facility by upholding their ethics and values.
- A customer care-oriented approach with good interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all laboratory procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
