Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of the CIC pharmacy, including medication dispensing, inventory management, patient counseling, and ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret and dispense prescription medications in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Identify and address potential drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects.
  • Prepare and compound pharmaceutical products as per prescriptions.
  • Monitor and manage pharmaceutical inventory to prevent shortages and overstocking.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions for medications, adhering to safety and quality assurance standards.
  • Assist in the procurement and restocking of pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive medication counseling, including proper usage, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Educate patients on over-the-counter medications, supplements, and general health concerns.
  • Promote adherence to prescribed medication regimens for better therapeutic outcomes.
  • Offer advice on over-the-counter products, supplements, and health-related concerns.
  • Coordinate and manage wellness initiatives such as CIC Dawa Mlangoni and the CDM program through timely drug delivery.
  • Collaborate with service providers to optimize patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with prescribers to clarify and discuss medication-related issues.
  • Review and provide technical support on pharmacy prescriptions and such claims.
  • Ensure a positive and welcoming environment for customers.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Resolve issues related to medication availability, insurance, and prescription refills.
  • Ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and prescription files.
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay informed about new drugs, treatments, and healthcare developments.
  • Commit to Continuous Professional Development.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from an institution recognized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board with a valid practicing license.
  • Computer literate in MS Office and other office applications.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in medical software and inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency in serving and billing Insurance claims.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in Retail Pharmacy Operations.
